FLYIN PL-W12K — WUXGA, two lamps, and a lens you never touch again
A 16 kg projector that hangs in a room you cannot easily reach is judged by two decisions: how many pixels it puts on a 300-inch screen, and how long it stays there. The PL-W12K is built around both.
Native WUXGA, 8,500 ANSI lumens from a pair of 350 W USHIO lamps, a 1.35* powered zoom with motorised lens shift, and a connectivity panel that still speaks RGBHV over five BNC connectors. It is a large-venue DLP projector for the rooms where the retrofit cable is already in the wall and the ceiling grid is already closed.
Light: Two Lamps, 8,500 ANSI Lumens
The PL-W12K is rated 8,500 ANSI lumens on a type basis, with a 12,000-lumen market rating also quoted by the factory. We publish both because they are measured differently, and a buyer comparing our number against a competitor's should know which basis each one uses before deciding.
Behind that output sit two 350 W USHIO lamps. Two lamps matter in a fixed install for a simple reason: the maintenance calendar gets shorter. Both lamps are reached through a side access door — no unbolting a 16 kg chassis from a truss, no re-aligning the image afterwards. The published lamp life is above 10,000 hours.
Lamp mode is selectable between NORMAL and ECO. Cooling runs 60 s or 90 s depending on mode.
Resolution: 1,920 Pixels Across
The panel is native WUXGA — 1,920 pixels across, which is 1.5* the horizontal pixel count of a WXGA (1,280 * 800) large-venue projector. On a 200-inch screen that difference is not subtle: it is the difference between a 10-point spreadsheet that a back-row engineer can read and one that has to be walked up to.
For rooms running 16:10 laptop and CAD content, the panel matches the source instead of letterboxing it. 16:10 is the standard aspect; 16:9 is also supported.
The input stage accepts computer signals from 640 * 400 up to 1920 * 1200, including WUXGA and UXGA. Video input covers PAL, SECAM, NTSC 4.43, PAL-M, PAL-N, 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p — and SCART, which is the detail that tells you this machine was designed for the European retrofit market, not just for new-build rooms.
Contrast and Image Modes
Contrast is 2,800:1. That is a static figure, quoted as panel contrast rather than as a dynamic multiplier, so it describes the image a buyer actually sees and not a full-on / full-off peak figure.
Five picture modes are preset: Dynamic, Standard, Cinema, Blackboard and Colorboard. Blackboard and Colorboard exist because a projector in a training room is often aimed at a wall that is green, grey or beige rather than white — the modes correct the cast so text does not pick up a tint.
Lens and Installation
- Zoom / focus: powered, 1.35*
- Throw ratio: 100-inch image at 3.6 m
- Screen size: 40" to 300"
- Lens shift: V ±55 %, H ±10 %
- Lens: F 2.0–2.4, f 24.5–33.1 mm
- Keystone: V ±30°, H ±15°, plus corner keystone and pincushion / barrel correction
The combination that saves install time is powered zoom plus ±55 % vertical shift. On a ceiling mount, the projector can be hung where the structure already is, and the image moved onto the screen electrically — from the floor, with the remote. Corner keystone then handles the case where the screen is not square to the lens axis, which in retrofit rooms it rarely is.
Connectivity: The Five BNC Panel
The input panel is deliberately old-fashioned where it needs to be:
| Input |
Qty |
| BNC (RGBHV) | *5 |
| VGA (D-sub 15) | *1 |
| DVI-D (with HDCP) | *1 |
| HDMI | *1 |
| Video (composite) | *1 |
| S-Video | *1 |
Five BNC connectors carry RGBHV as five separate signals. In a control room, a lecture theatre or a house of worship, that is the cable that was pulled through the conduit a decade ago and that nobody is going to replace. The PL-W12K plugs into it directly — no RGB-to-HDMI converter, no scaler, no new cable run.
HDMI and DVI-D with HDCP cover current sources, so the same projector serves the legacy rack and the new laptop without a switcher change.
Signal ranges: H 15–100 kHz, V 48–85 Hz.
Control and Network
- RJ45 LAN with Crestron RoomView, AMX Discovery and PJ Link
- RS232 input and RS232 output (loop-through to a second projector)
- Wired remote in / out
The RS232 output is the one integrators notice. It lets one serial command chain two projectors, so a dual-projector room is controlled as a single address rather than two.
Also included: auto signal search, auto PC adjustment, signal power-on, 10 s turn-on countdown, audio muting, closed caption, and suspend after 5 minutes without signal.
Multi-Projector Work
Two features make the PL-W12K usable beyond a single screen:
- Edge blending — overlapping images from two or more units blend into one wide canvas instead of showing a seam.
- Digital zoom 1–16* with corner keystone — lets an operator size and square an image into an existing aperture without changing the physical mount.
Paired with the 1.35* powered zoom and ±55 % vertical shift, a two-unit blend is achievable without custom bracketry.
Dust, Filters and the Long Install
Large venues are dusty. The PL-W12K uses an ESD dust filter rated HEPA, with a user-selectable cleaning cycle of 100, 200 or 300 hours. Set the interval to the room: 100 hours for a hall next to a loading bay, 300 hours for a sealed lecture theatre.
Also carried: security bar, password protection, control panel lock, and Kensington lock slot.
Power, Heat and Environment
| Power requirement | 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz |
| Power consumption | 830 W |
| Standby (ECO) | < 0.5 W |
| Noise @ 1 m | 36 dB |
| Operating temperature | 0–40 °C (35 °C in ECO) |
| Storage temperature | −20 to 60 °C |
| Operating / storage humidity | 20–85 % / 10–85 % |
| High-altitude mode | 1,400–2,700 m |
| Dimensions (W*H*D) | 490 * 201 * 421 mm, excluding protruding parts |
| Net weight | 16 kg |
At 830 W the circuit is the constraint, not the projector: a 100–240 V supply covers both a 220 V hall and a 110 V site without a transformer.

Project Support Before Quotation
Four things we settle with you before a PO, because they decide whether the projector fits the room rather than the other way round:
- Mount and screen geometry — screen size, throw distance, and the bracket depth available behind the ceiling tile. Send us the room dimensions and we return the lens setting, the shift range used, and the image height.
- Signal path — which sources stay on BNC, which move to HDMI or DVI-D, and whether a scaler or switcher remains in the chain.
- Lamp strategy — NORMAL or ECO duty cycle for your daily hours, and the spare-lamp quantity that keeps the room lit between service visits.
- Destination compliance — the certificate set your project requires, and the voltage and plug standard at the site.
Tell us the destination country with the enquiry and the quotation is issued against that requirement.
Summary
The PL-W12K is a 16 kg, 8,500 ANSI lumen, native WUXGA dual-lamp DLP projector with a powered 1.35* zoom, ±55 % vertical lens shift, five BNC inputs, edge blending, and Crestron / AMX / PJ Link control. It is specified for large venues where the cable already exists, the ceiling is already closed, and the image has to stay up for years at a time.
